PAT IN YORK
2 ON-LOCATION FILMED VIDEO WORKSHOPS
Sketching in York is a joy. Visiting York is a joy. York is such a special place, steeped in history, quirky architecture that delights at ever turn, the gloriously aged and textured red brick, the huge sandstone blocks on the City walls, the tiny cottage doorways…and arched gateways leading to magic places, popping up everywhere. Its too long since I was here and it spoke to me. I shall be back..and sketch and sketch.
There’s a different kind of “wandering-peace” about this city too. Even on a scorching day with screeching sirens, families in the sunshine and children splashing in the up-and-down water-fountain pool, it felt leisurely, slow paced, everyone enjoying just being there, chilling and in the moment. And I even
re-connected with 2 lovely sketchers from Australia in all of this. They saw me.
They'd both done a workshop, with me, in Australia and were holidaying in the UK, in York, on the exact day we chose to come ( not been to York for years! ) and in the exact same spot! "It's got to be Pat, they said!" What are the chances of that?
There are 2 films in this series and another 2 to follow: both set in York. No way we could stop at 2 - York’s way too delicious for that! We found a perfect location, straightaway, with tables and space to set up in and the City Gallery at our back. Sketch 1 had to be the City walls ( that glorious sandstone! ), the pan-tile reds of houses, a dark tree for balance and the Minster behind.
Sketch 2, We swivelled round to our left…and oh my, all we could have hoped for: an iconic York Archway, leading us in and through, zingy red houses alongside and a stand of gorgeous black trees on the right. Bliss…
We stayed all day. How could we not? Filming for hours, totally in the zone and a lovely tree-shaded break for lunch in the nearby Artful Badger’s Secret Garden
( smoked salmon sandwiches and sticky toffee pudding ).
