3 FANTASTIC PICTURES     PROFESSIONALLY FILMED & EDITED

Welcome to the brand new video course from the fantastic artist Matt D Wright AKA

Mat and his Cat.  This fabulous new course features 3 beautiful pictures, carefully created by Matt. Each picture is broken down into easy to follow sections, all professionally filmed and edited. So sit back and relax, or follow along, the choice is yours.

PICTURE ONE - CAT CAFE

14 BITE-SIZED SECTIONS      218 MINUTE DURATION

This charming Grade II listed building is the perfect place to start. A relatively simple Georgian façade but with loads of character: a slightly askew dormer window, a wonderfully wonky chimney, classic sash windows, a cast-iron

lamp, and, of course, cats in the window. Because the structure itself is straightforward, it lets us focus on brickwork, proportions, and technical

drawing without getting overwhelmed.

PICTURE TWO - BELLS TEA SHOP

12 BITE-SIZED SECTIONS      242 MINUTE DURATION

Bells Tea Shop.jpg

Dating from around 1600, Bells Tea Shop retains elements of a medieval building,  with 18th and 19th century alterations. Its distinctive Tudor timber beams make it a joy to draw, especially alongside those gorgeous ground-floor bay windows. Here we shift away from brickwork to explore roof tiles, textural shading, and hatching techniques.

PICTURE THREE - TOWNHOUSE

8 BITE-SIZED SECTIONS      151 MINUTE DURATION

Our final study is a gloriously crooked, currently vacant building that feels like it’s been gently leaning its way through the centuries. Nearly everything about it is delightfully off-kilter from the roofline, guttering, and even a subtle curve running through the brickwork. It’s the perfect subject to pull together everything we’ve learned: scaling, brick textures, cross-hatching, shadow work, and capturing character through imperfection.

All three buildings sit within Lincoln’s historic Steep Hill and Bailgate area, a stone’s throw from the Cathedral and surrounded by architectural gems spanning Roman, Medieval, Norman, Tudor, and Georgian periods.

MEET THE ARTIST

Mat image.jpg

Hi I’m Matt, an architectural illustrator based in Lincoln. Working simply in pen and paper I try to capture both the detail and character of buildings.

Much of what I draw is shaped by personal familiarity and local history. Past projects include Haunted Lincoln, a playful but detailed study of the city’s buildings and ghost stories, and The Great Lincoln Pub Crawl, celebrating the rich heritage of Lincoln’s pubs through their architecture.

Whether I’m drawing an Elizabethan hall or a derelict pub, I’m interested in the stories spaces hold, and how they connect us to our environment.

Each piece is an invitation to slow down, look closely, and find meaning in the everyday.
