PICTURE ONE - SCOTTISH BOTHY
18 BITE-SIZED SECTIONS 106 MINUTE DURATION
We start with a nice simple scene of a bothy in the Scottish Highlands. This is the first look at effectively simplifying a reference photo. Although this isn’t a complex painting, it still incorporates the basic fundamental techniques which I use in all of illustrations.
PICTURE TWO - LIGHTHOUSE
19 BITE-SIZED SECTIONS 135 MINUTE DURATION
Next we’re off to the Paard Van Marken Lighthouse! It’s a great subject and painted by many artists for a reason. With this one, we build on same techniques from the first painting, but there is more emphasis on detail and ensuring we have a good drawing as a framework for the rest of the painting.
PICTURE THREE - WORDSWORTH COTTAGE
19 BITE-SIZED SECTIONS 142 MINUTE DURATION
The last painting is of Dove Cottage in the Lake District; the famous home of William Wordsworth. This is the most challenging of the 3 paintings. Here we implement some perspective as well as exploring methods to illustrate plants and foliage.
MEET THE ARTIST
I am an ink and watercolour illustrator originally from Cumbria now living near Leeds in Yorkshire; so I feel at home in both the Lake District and the Dales.
These beautiful local landscapes are a significant inspiration for me, however I also love visiting (and illustrating) less familiar areas such as the incredible Northumbrian castles or the lochside cottages of the Highlands.
